On the international day for the end of speciesism, Speak Up for Animals volunteers join the international actions. Recently we held a “Cupcake for a Conversation” action in central Wellington, where anyone who wished to get a delicious vegan cupcake, completely free of charge, had to engage in a conversation with one of us, discussing the nature of speciesism and the reason and benefits of veganism.
What is Speciesism?
Speciesism is a doctrine which assigns different values, rights, or special consideration to individuals solely on the basis of their species membership. Speciesism is a prejudice similar to racism or sexism, in that the treatment of individuals is predicated on group membership and morally irrelevant physical differences. Species membership should have no moral significance.
